Agricultural Economics Unit
The agricultural economics unit offers courses to all programmes in BCA. The unit emphasizes on providing knowledge and skills needed to consult and undertake business in farm business management, marketing, price analysis, production economics and agricultural policy. The graduates with agricultural economics background can work in development banks, government, non-governmental organizations, agribusiness and consultancy firms.
The unit cooperates with other departments in the Faculty of Agriculture by offering core courses required by the different programmes of the faculty. The unit is also active in providing consultancies services to the Ministry of Agriculture, farmer organizations, Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations and other local and international organizations.
At present the unit does not offer single major programmes leading to the award of either a BSc or an MSc in Agricultural Economics. However, plans are at an advanced stage to offer BSc Agricultural Economics degree in the near future and an MSc in Agricultural and Applied Economics. The unit also actively participates in the Collaborative Master of Science Programme in Agricultural and Applied Economics in Eastern and Southern Africa.
