The Department of Animal Science Production is made up of five units, Animal Clinic, Diagnostic Lab, Field Lab, Nutritional Lab and Student Enterprise Project



  • List other costs per month, where applicable (such as cost of maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings and land; rent; insurance or miscellaneous costs which would be specified).
  • Types of Projects To Be Offered

    Departments will decide on the types of projects offered. They will aim at offering projects which have available facilities at the college; offer prospects for future business opportunities and have markets for the products. Participants will be allowed to engage in various agricultural enterprises such as:
    Horticulture (Vegetables, Ornamental, Fruits).

    • Livestock (Dairy, Beef, Piggery, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep and Goat production).
    • Agricultural Engineering (Manufacturing of simple agricultural tools as well as services to farmers including repair and servicing of machinery).

    The project offered will normally be undertaken within a period of ten (10) months.

    Courses for SEP Participants

    An applicant intending to participate in the SEP programme will go through an orientation on SEP prior to undertaking a SEP project. The participant will also be required to receive training through the CICE in the following areas:

    • Agricultural record keeping and accounting.
    • Marketing and pricing of agricultural products.
    • Business management
    • Business law.

    Monitoring and Evaluation of Enterprises

    The Department of Agricultural Economics, Education and Extension (AEE), together with supervisors and the students concerned will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the enterprises. The department of AEE will identify a member of staff who will assist participants at least on a monthly basis to get their individual records up to date and/or advise on the viability of the enterprises. After completion of the SEP programme, staff from the department of AEE, the Bursar's office and supervisors will follow up ex-SEP participants to find out where they are, what they are doing and determine what their constraints are: The information gathered in this follow-up mission will provide valuable feedback which will assist BCA in assessing the effectiveness and usefulness of the SEP training programme in preparing agricultural graduates for self-employment.
