The Department of Crop Science Production is made up of seven units, Agronomy, Crop Physiology, Crop Protection, Soil Science,Plant Clinic,Horticulture and Forestry & Range



CSD325: Timber Harvesting (2 credits)

This course covers forest harvesting technology, planning and implementation of harvesting operations, and road construction and maintenance. This is a 2 credits core course offered in semester 4 Level 200 and has no pre- requisites. (1L, 2P)

CSD326: Fruit and Vegetable Production (2 credits)

The course covers the scope of economic importance, environmental requirements; cultural practices of tropical, subtropical and temperate fruits, and leafy, fruit, stem, root, tuber, flower and bulb vegetables. This is a 2 credits core course offered in semester 4 level 200 and has no pre- requisites. (1L, 2P)

CSD327: Field Crop Production Practices (2 credits)

The course covers acquisition of practical skills in seed sourcing and planting methods, fertiliser use and application, crop management and husbandry in the field, maturity determination, harvesting, storage, processing, marketing and utilisation of cereals and sugar crops, legumes and oilseeds, root and tubers, fibres and miscellaneous field crops of importance to Botswana and the region. This is a 2 credits core course offered in semester 4 level 200 and has no pre-requisites. (1L, 2P)

CSD328: Crop Protection Techniques (3 credits)

The course covers general concepts of pests, their economic importance, the biology of major groups of pests (insects, pathogens and weeds), diagnosis of major pests of field and horticultural crops, pest control principles and techniques, pesticide application equipment and integrated pest management. This is a 3 credits core course offered in semester 4 level 200 and its pre- requisites are Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology. (2L, 2P)
